Households urged to switch to Britain’s cheapest energy deal

Households angry at bumper British Gas profits, announced yesterday, are being warned to switch to Britain’s cheapest energy tariff – the OVO Energy 12-month fixed price deal.

The deal would save the average customer between £101 and £168 a year dependent on the payment method they chose, according to energyhelpline.com.

All of the energy suppliers hiked their prices over the winter, by an average of 8.9pc for dual fuel bills among the “big six”. British Gas applied the lowest increase, at 6.5pc.

But the rises are largely down to increased investment in the network and green measures (more on this below).

Regardless of why prices are rising, consumers can still make decent savings by taking advantage of the merry-go-round of re-pricing on new deals to switch to the cheapest tariff.
